Professional service
Council member of the intelligent construction branch of the China Highway and Transportation Society, with wider engagement in digital construction, infrastructure monitoring and built-environment research communities.
Talks
Forty external talks and lectures are archived for 2018-2023, delivered in seven countries. A selection is listed below.
Seminar and discussion at the Oxford University Centre for the Environment. Title to be announced.
A selection from the archived record. Each entry is a talk that was given, at a named venue.
International conference presentation on reality capture, BIM integration and infrastructure digital twins.
European structural-health-monitoring conference presentation on computer vision for civil infrastructure assessment.
Invited lecture. Slides were prepared in four versions across English and Chinese for the conference programme.
Continuing professional development delivered to working engineers rather than to students — in English and in Chinese.
The earliest documented evidence of my teaching in English to a professional audience. Course slides are archived.
Including a full-day training course for a bridge engineering association, two BIM courses for a municipal construction commission’s professional development programme, and transport-sector management training.
Current lecture and seminar topics, distinct from the record above.
Sensing, model updating and maintenance planning, for academic and professional audiences.
Data-informed structural assessment, anomaly detection, and how an engineer should read the output.
Construction robotics, digital workflows and research testbeds.
Information management, machine-readable codes and cross-border digital engineering collaboration.
Recognition
Three national science and technology prizes, two research awards from Germany, and an individual national award for research work. Issuing bodies, award levels, project titles and my position in each team are given as they appear on the certificates.
For Key Technologies and Applications for Structural Safety Diagnostics and Smart Disaster Prevention in Civil Infrastructure. Fifth of fifteen named contributors.
For Key Technologies for Refined Diagnosis and Prevention of Fatigue Damage in Long-Span Bridges under Multi-Factor Coupling. The Grand Prize sits above the First Prize; the certificate is issued to me by name.
For Key Technologies and Engineering Application for Performance Enhancement of Existing Building Structures. Fourth named contributor. The strengthening and retrofit line it recognised still runs through the current research agenda.
Awarded to a named researcher rather than to a project team.
Awarded during doctoral research at the university where I took my Dr.-Ing.
For Research on Deformation Performance of Concrete Structures by 3D Laser Scanning — the earliest public recognition of the reality-capture line that later became the most-cited part of my work.
For Algorithm Research on Reinforced-Concrete Surface Cracks Based on 3D Laser Scanning.
Teaching
